Claude Opus 5.5 Replaces Opus 5 — Same SOTA Band ​

Claude Opus 5.5 is in the model picker, in the seat Opus 5 held. Same SOTA 12× band, adaptive thinking, 1M context, 128K output. Open an Opus 5 conversation and the next turn runs on 5.5. You do not re-pin.

What you can do ​

  • Pick Claude Opus 5.5 from Recommended or Closed SOTA. It is the Anthropic flagship on that strip. The new-chat card says Try out the latest Claude Opus 5.5 and opens the picker on that row.
  • Keep working in an existing Opus 5 thread. The picker shows Claude Opus 5.5, and the next message runs on it.
  • Use the same long-horizon shape — adaptive thinking with visible summaries, effort high, 1M context, 128K max output, and tools.
  • Let Auto and Swarm reach it — SOTA tier, quality 68, same slot Opus 5 used.
  • Keep EU-only geofencing. Requests can stay on the EU Bedrock profile when EU Data Residency is on.
  • Pay the same band. Opus 5.5 stays on SOTA 12×, the band Opus 5 used.

Where this shows up ​

You left an Opus 5 analysis open. Open it and keep going — the picker says Claude Opus 5.5, and the work continues in the same thread.

You start a new chat and want Anthropic's latest Opus for a multi-day coding or research job. It is on Recommended, next to GPT-6 Astra and GLM 5.3.

You run a Swarm that used to pin Opus 5 as the lead. That pin now resolves to Opus 5.5.

Try it ​

  • "Take over this half-finished migration: read the repo, figure out what's left, and finish it — flag anything you had to decide on the way."
  • "Work through the financials on this acquisition target and tell me where the deal breaks."
  • "Run a research swarm: you lead and synthesize, workers gather sources and draft sections."

Heads up ​

  • SOTA band — 12× tokens. Same customer band as Opus 5.
  • Opus 5 is retired from the picker, Auto, and Swarm. Sessions pinned to Opus 5, and older Opus 4.8 pins, roll forward to Opus 5.5. The stored pin updates when you open the chat or send the next message.
  • EU-only geofencing supported. Opus 5.5 routes through geo-prefixed Bedrock profiles, including the EU profile.
  • No harness numbers yet. Can it Run Alfrada? still shows Opus 5 until 5.5 has a full run.
