Music Lab Moves to Suno v6 — Three Models, Same Studio Band
October 5, 2026
Music Lab now generates on Suno's v6 family. You get a newer default, plus two alternates you can ask for by behaviour: one that takes bigger creative swings, one that comes back faster. Nothing changes about what a track costs you.
What you can do
- Get v6 by default. Every Music Lab request now uses V6, the newest Suno generation, billed by Suno as more expressive and higher quality than the models it replaces. You do not have to ask for it.
- Ask for a bolder take. Say you want something experimental or unusual and the track is generated on V6_WILD, which takes more creative risks. Good when you want to be surprised, less good when you need something safe.
- Ask for a quick draft. Say you want it fast and the track comes back on V6_MINI, the quickest of the three. Useful for auditioning a direction before you commit to it.
- Everything else works the same. Idea mode (all guidance in one prompt) and Structured mode (style + title + lyrics) both still apply, vocals can still be male or female, instrumental-only is unchanged, and a call still returns two variants.
- V3_5, V4_5 and V5 are retired. There is nothing to migrate. Tracks you already generated keep playing, and new requests land on the v6 family automatically.
Where this shows up
You ask for a podcast intro and just take the default. You did nothing differently, and the track that comes back is from a newer generation than the one you used last month.
You are hunting for the right feel for a brand video and do not know what you want yet. Ask for a few fast drafts, pick a direction, then ask for a proper version of the one that worked.
You want something that does not sound like everything else. Ask for an experimental take and let V6_WILD go further than the default would.
Try it
- "Make an upbeat lo-fi instrumental for a product demo, around 90 seconds."
- "Give me a quick draft of a cinematic trailer cue — just something rough so I can hear the direction."
- "Make something experimental and unusual: a dreamy synth track with unexpected changes."
- "Write a folk song about a lighthouse keeper. Female vocals, acoustic, melancholy."
Heads up
- Music Lab stays on Pro and above, in the Studio band at 2M tokens per call. Moving to v6 does not change the band.
- Idea-mode prompts now cap at 3K characters, down from 5K. Structured mode — where you supply the lyrics yourself — still takes 5K. A very long single-prompt brief may need trimming, or moving to Structured mode.
- Tracks are still full length, roughly 1 to 3 minutes. Asking for a precise short length still does not work: generate the track, then trim it.
- Music Lab still runs as a background job, so you can keep talking while it renders.
